We are looking for an enthusiastic Buyer with a keen eye for value, interest and awareness of trends coupled with a passion and an eye for quality products at competitive rates.

The successful candidate must preferably have at least 5 years of relevant or comparable buying experience, possess above average analytical and inter-personal skills and must reside in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ DUTIES

Buying & Category Management

  • Identify new brand opportunities, in line with the business and divisional strategies and initiate introduction meetings
  • Product range and line development, identify business opportunities for the organisation, Propose buying and category plans in line with sales and margin targets
  • Monitor market trends, competitors, and customer demand

Commercial Performance

  • Review of budget, sales, margins, stock turnover et cetera

Promotions & Marketing

  • Propose and motivate Marketing and Promotions
  • Staying abreast of specials in the market/ awareness of price movements to maintain product pricing competitiveness
  • Ensure stock availability and profitability

Systems & Processes

  • Improve and standardise buying processes and systems
  • Ensure accurate product, pricing, and supplier data

Supplier Management

  • Source and negotiate with suppliers for best cost, quality, and lead times
  • Build and manage strong supplier relationships

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with stores and DC on forecasts and inventory management, pro-actively manage stock shortages/ levels
  • Partner with stores on visual merchandising and space allocation, balance product assortment and visual on-shelf display to meet the customers’ needs
  • Review performance to improve range and replenishment

Team Leadership

  • Ability to make effective decisions under difficult circumstances, take ownership and displaying initiative and champion own ideas
  • Lead and manage a team of 6 people
  • Improve team structure, processes, and workload efficiency
  • Coach and develop a high-performing team

DESIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or Diploma in Retail, Supply Chain, Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field
  • Preferably 5 years of relevant experience together with experience in a retail environment (advantageous)
  • Previous experience and exposure to procurement and/or supply chain practices is essential
  • Expert Level proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel
  • Active consumer who finds joy in online and physical shopping
  • Social media and trend awareness, solid understanding of shopper patterns and consumer behaviour
